Bio

THE RAFIKI PROJECT is a dub/rock/reggae influenced quartet based out of San Antonio, Texas. Conscious efforts to create innovative sounds without insult to the genre itself allow The Project to stand out. After 6 years of playing music around the southwest, TRP has met and moved many people from South Padre Island, TX to Denver, CO. They have played along side many great bands including Passafire, Supervillans, Expandables, Ashes of Babylon, and their favorite, Texas Tornado! Their lyrics personify capsulated moments of triumph, inequality, love, shame, and positive action, to name a few. Their music walks a fine line between many genres, but typically falls into the reggae/dub stronghold by the end of the composition. Staying true to their transparant traditions, it is common to have groups of folk gathering at their practice loft to see the interworking of an indie band, the good, the bad, the sounds. TRP has a revolving door of songs and styles allowing them to fuse rhythyms and love, a match that will be sure to keep you moving!

TRP's album "Greener Grasses" out now on iTunes!

If rock is about freedom and attitude, then Rafiki Project is one of the best regional rock bands we have.

                    -Enrique Lopetegui(San Antonio Current)

Drifts between Top 40 catchiness and tweaked-out retro-futuristic reggae that might be called space jam, if Michael Jordan were never born. Watching it played live is like seeing a remix created in real time.

- Jeremy Martin (San Antonio Current)

There are songs that make you want to dance and songs that let you sit and vibe, but either way you have it, the groove is contagious.

- Eric Washburn (BACKBEAT Magazine)

The Rafiki Project is bringing nothing but good vibes to the local music scene. The group’s fusion of genres is fun and effective, with a sound that accentuates the chill factor of reggae with psychedelic electronics and bursts of energy featuring punk drums and a trumpeter.
